September 8, 2008 (Its coming to ozlo)  Just days after it  rolled out Chrome , Google Inc.  issued an update after Vietnamese security researchers reported a critical vulnerability in the beta browser. According to Le Duc Anh, a researcher at Bach Khoa Internetwork Security (BKIS), which is housed at the Hanoi University of Technology, the Chrome beta posted last week contained a buffer overflow bug that could be used by attackers to hijack PCs. The flaw can be triggered when the user saves a Web page -- using Chrome's "Save page as" command -- with a very long name. That, in turn, creates a stack-based buffer overflow that hackers can leverage to introduce additional malicious code. "To exploit the vulnerability, a hacker might construct a specially-crafted Web page, which contains malicious code," said a  security advisory  issued by BKIS on Friday. Google’s shiny new Web browser is vulnerable to a carpet-bombing vulnerability that could expose Windows users to malicious hacker attacks. Just hours after the release of Google Chrome, researcher  Aviv Raff discovered that he could combine two vulnerabilities — a flaw in Apple Safari (WebKit) and a Java bug discussed at this year’s Black Hat conference — to trick users into launching executables direct from the new browser. Raff has cooked up a harmless demo of the attack in action, showing how a Google Chrome users can be lured into downloading and launching a JAR (Java Archive) file that gets executed without warning. SAN FRANCISCO — Intel has made progress in a technology that could lead to the wireless recharging of gadgets and the end of the power-cord spaghetti behind electronic devices. It says it has increased the efficiency of a technique for wirelessly powering consumer gadgets and computers, a development that could allow a person to simply place a device on a desktop countertop to power it. It could bring the consumer electronics industry a step closer to a world without wires. On Thursday, the chip maker plans to demonstrate the use of a magnetic field to broadcast up to 60 watts of power two to three feet. According to a new Brigham Young University study, city employees who work four 10-hour days a week experience lower levels of at-home conflict, which they report translates to higher job satisfaction and productivity. The paper, authored by Rex Facer and Lori Wadsworth of BYU’s Romney Institute of Public Management, appears in this month’s issue of Review of Public Personnel Administration. The research was conducted among Spanish Fork City employees, many of whom work the alternative 4/10 schedule, rather than the traditional five eight-hour days. Salt Lake, West Valley, Provo, West Jordan and Draper are among other Utah cities which offer similar programs.
